Rev up Your Look with these Creative Holiday Makeup Tips

Bring on the vivid fuchsia lips, colorful eyeliner and extra-luminous highlighter! This holiday season, I’m feeling inspired to be extra creative with my beauty looks. If you’re looking for some fresh ideas to spice up your typical makeup routine, I’m going to share some fun twists on the classics — just in time for the holidays.

Revive Your Skin

Skin feeling sluggish? The basis of every beautiful beauty look is a fresh, healthy-looking complexion. Whether you are looking to wake up your skin before a holiday event or revive it after a night out, here’s a 5-minute skin-revival overnight routine using just 6 products.

  • First, cleanse with PURENESS Cleanser.
  • To revitalize your skin, mix 1 pump of SKINLONGEVITY Long Life Herb Serum with 1 pump of AGELESS Night Concentrate and apply.
  • Next, gently pat AGELESS Eye Cream around the eye area to hydrate.
  • To further strengthen the skin, apply SKINLONGEVITY Long Life Herb Night Treatment.
  • Don’t forget about lip care! Apply AGELESS Lip Mask for smoother, more hydrated lips.
  • BONUS: Pop a set of SKINLONGEVITY Green Tea Herbal Eye Masks in the fridge before using for an extra refreshing feel around the eye area.

Add a Wash of Eye Color

I absolutely love how a wash of color can make the eyes look so awake, while bringing an artistic vibe to your overall look. You can create depth and dimension by layering matte and shimmer shadows and blending and layering unexpected color combinations. Of course, you can also go monochromatic and harmonious. Don’t be afraid to take your shadow under the eye, as it can really complete your look. When taking shadow under the lash line, use the smaller side of an eyeshadow brush like the Essential Blender to diffuse the shadow and work outward. This adds the element of definition — without being too strong.

PRO TIP: Place a shimmering shadow on the center of your eyelids and browbone for a brightening effect.

Get Your Holiday Glow On

Towards the end of the year, skin can lose that sun-kissed glow of summer. Let’s keep it going throughout the winter months with a bronzer and highlighter hack that lit-from-within radiance — perfect for holiday photos. First, sweep ENDLESS GLOW Highlighter onto the top of your cheekbones at the highest points of your face. This makes your skin look like it’s glowing from the inside out. Available in 4 flattering shades, this mineral-based blurring highlighting powder gives you that smooth, glitter-free finish that instantly perfects skin. Next, apply our cult-favorite Warmth All-Over Face Color Loose Bronzing Powder onto the apples of your cheekbones to create soft definition, or apply it higher and sweep it back for a sculpted effect. This unique formula is made specifically to be applied where the sun would naturally hit your face, as it mimics that beautiful summer glow we’re all missing right about now. Add a pop of highlighter to unexpected places like the center of your eyelid for a wide-awake look or on the cupid’s bow for fuller-looking lips.

PRO TIP: Want some glow that’s a little more subtle? Layer highlighter under blush or bronzer for a natural-looking radiance.

Build Your Liner

From your morning meeting to your evening holiday party, building your eyeliner intensity is an easy way to add drama to your overall holiday makeup look. Right now I’m loving a technique called “lash hugging,” which is basically dragging your eye pencil from corner to corner of your upper lash line, following your natural eye shape, using a pencil or a liquid liner. This basically just enhances your eye, giving it clean definition. If you want to take things to the next level, slightly elongate your line by flipping the pencil you are using and dragging the line a few centimeters past the outer eye corner. Next, use a flat eyeshadow brush like the Dramatic Definer to sharpen up your shape a little, working outward. When you want to go all-out, keep things going by extending your line even longer, angling slightly upward. For an unexpected twist, extend the line just under the lower lashes and connect it to the liner on the outer corner on top. You can also line your inner rim for an added touch of smokiness.

While black is a classic shade for eyeliner, try pairing it with a colored liner — for example: black liner on the top lid and a color at the bottom lash line or layer a color over black to create a deeper custom shade. Or, try picking a brighter color to put onto the water lines for your liner for an unexpected pop.

PRO TIP: Keep both eyes open and look straight ahead when drawing on your liner — you’ll achieve the best flick for your eye shape.

Make Lips Your Accessory

Sometimes all you need is a gorgeous bold lip color to take your look from everyday to holiday. You can opt for a traditional tone like Hailey’s classic red shade (MINERALIST Hydra-Smoothing Lipstick in Intuition) or decide to play with color like Riley, who rocks a rich magenta hue (MINERALIST Hydra-Smoothing Lipstick in Wisdom). We have a number of lip colors that are beautiful and unexpected, from MINERALIST Lip Gloss-Balm in Love — a gorgeous mauve shade — to something bold like MINERALIST Hydra-Smoothing Lipstick in Inspiration, which is the perfect cherry red.

When playing with a bold lip, try keeping the rest of your look more subtle with a soft wash of color on the eyes so that it doesn’t compete with your lip. On the opposite end of the spectrum, when choosing a nude lip, make sure it isn’t exactly the same color as your skin tone. Instead, opt for something with more tone to add dimension. If you can’t find a shade that’s working for you, start with your complexion undertone and choose a lip color in the same family — this will create balance!

Switch it up for New Year’s Eve

Is your go-to look a smokey eye and nude lip? Try switching it up for New Year’s Eve this year. Opt for a bold lip paired with a sleek black eyeliner. if you’re not super comfortable in a bold lip, choose a brighter lip gloss shade for a sheer pop of color that still feels like you — and a little special.

How to Wear Shimmer on Mature Skin

Think you shouldn’t wear shimmer on your eyes after a certain age? Absolutely not true! Some great options are to layer a matte over your shimmer shadow color to create a soft luminous effect, or use a fluffy brush like the Essential Blender Brush to create a sheer wash of shimmer onto the eyes.

Set Your Makeup for a Late Night

Setting your makeup gives not only gives you more wear time, but it also helps your skin look gorgeous and perfectly airbrushed. Use our new ORIGINAL MINERAL VEIL Pressed Finishing Powder in either Transcluscent or a tinted shade to absorb oils and keep your makeup in place well into 2022. Throw it in your bag for easy touchups as the night goes on. And bonus: no flashback in all the fun pictures you’ll be taking.

PRO TIP: If you put on a bit too much blush or bronzer, no need to start over — just buff translucent MINERAL VEIL over those areas with a fluffy brush to soften and blend the color.
