Your Weekend Look: How to Make Metallics Wearable

BEAUTY

Metallic makeup can seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. First things first: metallics don’t mean glitter. Think a shimmery finish that’s glossy without the stickiness. This doesn’t just make it better for the earth — it’s also so much more approachable and you can really wear it for any occasion. I’ll take you through two looks here to show how wearable metallics can be, using our new GEN NUDE Metallic Collection.

Your Wearable Metallic Eye Makeup Look

For this metallic eye look, I picked the deepest liquid eyeshadow shade, Fire Agate because so many people are hesitant to use a deep, rich color, especially in a new formula like this one. It’s perfect for fall though and it creates an instantly enhanced eye that is totally approachable, especially with a sheer application that creates a seamless wash of color. If this is more than you want, you can layer the GEN NUDE Metallic Eyeshadow on top of a powder shadow to add dimension, or go even further by using multiple metallics — there’s no wrong way to play.

I also love how flexible this formula is. It doesn’t dry too quickly, so you can stretch, manipulate and use your fingertips or a brush to create shape before it dries. To finish, apply a neutral lip for the daytime. Or, if you want to spice things up, you can add a metallic lip and add another eyeshadow shade for depth and dimension.

For the Face:

  • BAREPRO Liquid Foundation in shade Sandalwood
Find your shade using our Foundation Finder
  • BARESKIN Concealer in shade Medium
  • GEN NUDE Powder Blush in shade Beige For Days

For the Eyes:

  • LASTING LINE Eyeliner in shade Eternal Bronze
  • GEN NUDE Latte Eyeshadow Palette, applying the shade Destiny on her eyelids
  • GEN NUDE Neutral Eyeshadow Palette, applying shade Indie to give shape, and to the lower lash line
  • GEN NUDE Metallic Liquid Eyeshadow, applying shade Fire Agate against the root of the lash line with the applicator and then extending the shadow up to the crease
  • LASHTOPIA Mega Volume Mineral-Based Mascara, applying multiple coats
  • BROW MASTER Eyebrow Pencil in shade Honey

For the Lips:

  • GEN NUDE Matte Liquid Lipstick in shade XYZ

A Few Tips:

  • For a wash of color, use your fingertip to blend and diffuse liquid eyeshadows.
  • Liquid eyeshadow means there’s no fallout. Try layering it under or over powder shadow. (I prefer over so you don’t mask the finish.)
  • Pair this eye look with a matte lip for a little contrast.

Your Wearable Metallic Lip Look

Here I wanted to deviate from the expected “bold” metallic lip. I did a smoky, sultry eye liner and paired it with GEN NUDE Metallic Patent Lip Lacquer in the shade Chocolate Diamond. Sometimes the finish makes a statement, and not necessarily the color. Inspired by the idea of extending summer into fall, I chose a lip that was sun-kissed — both in color and finish. Paired with a bronzed cheek and some glow, I love this look for work or play.
