Chemical Sunscreens

Coal Tar
This thick liquid is extracted from bituminous coal. CIR (Cosmetic Ingredient
Review) Expert Panel indicated that coal tar can produce adverse health effects when not used
in the appropriate concentration.
Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde (a metabolite of all mammals) and formaldehyde-releasing ingredients are used as preservatives and are classified as a known human carcinogen in the
United States.
Microbeads
These fine plastic particles are used as scrubbing agents in rinse-off cosmetic products, which can contribute to environmental pollution.
Mineral Oil
This clear, odorless liquid is a highly-purified material obtained from refining petroleum, which has damaging effects of petroleum production.
Parabens
